The Students' Union body of T.Romana College was formed on 10th October, 2000. Since then the Students' Union has always participated actively in ensuring the general welfare of the students in academic as well as non-academic fields. By virtue of their admission into the college all students of the College are members of this Union.

The Executive Body of the Students' Union comprises the following portfolios:

  1. President
  2. Vice - President
  3. General Secretary and Asst General Secretary
  4. Social & Cultural Secretary and Asst Secretary
  5. Common Room Secretary and Asst Secretary
  6. Games & Sports Secretary and Asst. Secretary
  7. Debating Secretary and Asst. Secretary
  8. Magazine Editor and Asst. Editor.

Every year the above leaders, (except the Principal of the College, who is the Ex-officio President), are elected by the students in a General Election through secret ballots. Besides the above, the executive body of the Students' Union includes:

  • Class representatives (2 elected representatives from each Class)
  • Lecturers in - charge of various Department of the Students' Union.
  • Vice Principal.

The Union's term of office is one academic year. The first election of the Students Union was held on 10th October, 2000 where only the Class representatives were given franchise. From 2001 - 2002 session onwards, all students have been given the right to vote in the Students' Union election.

Aims and Objectives


The Students' Union has been guided by the following objectives:
  1. To represent the welfare and interest of the Students.
  2. To promote a healthy corporate life among all members of the College.
  3. To develop academic atmosphere through a disciplined approach to the pursuit of higher studies.
  4. To organize extra – curricular activities.
  5. To create amenities for the welfare of the students.
  6. To protect the rights of the students and to promote their academic pursuit.
  7. To promote better relation between all the people through a framework of friendship and service.
  8. To provide opportunity for the students to enhance their knowledge and skills that will assist them in personal development.
  9. To help and encourage the students become good Citizens.

Activities

Some of the activities of the Union may be summarised as follows:

  • Every academic session the Students' Union organises College Week and its closing Function, Fresher Social, etc.
  • It publishes the annual College magazine
  • The clubs and associations established in the College - Students' Evangelical Union (SEU), Students' Self Support Union (SSU), Chess Club, Adventure Club, Cultural Club etc. all run in coordination with the Students' Union.
  • The Union undertakes the selection of students for participation in the Inter-College Sports.
  • The Students' Union also publishes a newsletter Serafim which serves as a source of information for the students.
  • During the last academic year, some of our students/members participated in the International Volunteers Day Run, organized by the Nehru Yuva Kendra (NYK) and got first prize.
  • It has successfully organised 'Praise and Worship service' at the College with the Herald for Christ Team, Aizawl
  • Some of our students participated in the 'Mizo Youth Tour' organized by Assam Rifles, Mizoram Range for College Students during November 21- December 7, 2002. In 2006, some of our students participated in a similar tour organized by MZP.
  • Our students bagged prizes in the Solo and Beat Contest for Higher Secondary Students and College Students jointly organized by the Mizoram University and Mizo Zirlai Pawl.
  • Ms.Lalbiaksangi Renthlei, our fellow student represented Mizoram state in the North East Sport Festival and won Gold medal in Boxing in 2003.
  • Mr. David Lalmalsawma Sailo and Ms. Lalmalsawmi Renthlei participated in the Inter- College Quiz Competition organized by Mizoram State T.B. Control Society and won second position in 2004.
  • T. Romana College Choir were awarded Best Discipline Award in the Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP) General Assembly at Khawzawl in 2004.
  • Our College Beat Group, “Grease Groovy” was declared as the Best Beat Group and our fellow students, Ms. Bernadeth Lalmalsawmi also stood in the third position in solo competition during the Beat & Solo Competition organized by MSU ( Mizo Student Union ) in 2005
  • In the Debate Competition organized by Hrangbana College, our College Participant Mr.T.Lallawmawma bagged the first position and declared as the Best Debator in 2005.
  • Mr. B.Lalhmingmawia stood in the second Position in the Essay Competition organized by Environment and Forests Department, Government of Mizoram in 2005
  • Mr David Lalmalsawma Sailo and Ms Bernadeth Lalmalsawmi bagged the Second Position in the Inter – College Quiz Competition organized by UNODC CHARCA and NSS Mizoram Cell in Collaboration with T. Romana College in 2005.
  • Our Participant, Mr Ramthianghlima got the second position in solo (male) during the Solo and Cultural Dance Competition organised by Post-Graduate Students' Union (PGSU) in 2005
  • Mr. GVL.Thlengliana got the third Position in the Essay Writing Competition organized by the Government of Mizoram in 2006
  • Lastly, some of our former student leader like Lalrinmawia and Ngurthansanga Sailo became the office bearers of the Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP), the Mizo Students Association General Headquarters; while LTZ Langva was elected to the Mizo Students Union (MSU) Gen. Headquarter and C.L Rothanga to the Students Self-Support Union (SSU) General Headquarters.
